ROTARY CLUB OF TOP OF THE LAKE - MOORESVILLE COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECT
NEW ROTARY CLUB DONATES $1,000 TO RED CROSS
MOORESVILLE, N.C. – October 14, 2004 – The Rotary Club of Top of the Lake – Mooresville has made a $1,000 contribution to the local chapter of the American Red Cross. The clubs donation is designated specifically in support of a local project for those in need of transportation to medical appointments.
The Rotary Club of the Top of the Lake – Mooresville is a new club which was chartered in February of this year. The club is made up of about 40 community business owners and managers from many types of businesses.
“I am excited about our opportunity to make a contribution to the Red Cross medical transportation project,” said Deborah Bowen, the clubs president. “We heard about the program initially from other area Rotary clubs who partner in the project, including our sponsoring club, The Rotary Club of North Mecklenburg. This year, we have learned more about the program and the financial needs to support it from area Red Cross volunteers and United Way fund raisers who have spoken at our weekly Rotary meetings.”
The Red Cross program provides medical transportation to residents of south Iredell and north Mecklenburg who cannot drive themselves and do not have other transportation available to them. The program currently has four automobiles that are housed at the Ada Jenkins Center, Davidson, and the Mooresville Red Cross office. Twenty-two volunteers drive area residents to and from their scheduled visits to doctors’ offices, labs, pharmacies, and hospital/clinics. About 200 such trips are made per month. The funding from the Rotary Club will help pay for gas, maintenance, and insurance for the vehicles.
